In celebration of the 70th anniversary of P.R. China, qigong masters from the Chinese Health Qigong association are touring the UK and we have dates in both Manchester and Liverpool.

Upcoming tai chi events and classes

With the mince pies all gone and normal classes starting up again from tomorrow, now seems like a good  time to mention a few upcoming events and other classes.

The first is a chance to practise part 5 of the taiji kungfu fan form with Angela Howarth in Aigburth, Liverpool on Saturday 13 January.

In February, fellow Deyin instructor Joanne Barton will be starting a couple of new classes for beginners in Horwich and Blackrod. The Horwich one is on Wednesdays at 7pm and starts 7 February. The Blackrod one is on Thursdays at 7pm and starts 8 February. Both have an optional sword class afterwards. Contact Joanne for details.

Now is a good time to think about booking onto the next Deyin Taijiquan Institute Bootcamp to celebrate Chinese New Year on Saturday 17 February, as these can get booked up quickly. Although it is in Telford rather than the Northwest it is a great opportunity to work (or play) with a few different Deyin instructors. It is free to Deyin members and only £20 otherwise so is amazing value. There is also a banquet and talent show in the evening.

And back in the Northwest, I have a new daytime course in Leigh planned for Thursday mornings starting in March - I will let you know the details closer to the time.

More Autumn events

Not a local event, but worth a trip to London! To celebrate 45 years of diplomatic relations between China and the UK, the UK Chinese Art Centre is putting together this stunning show on Tuesday 24 October at the Hackney Empire. Joanne and I will be performing in the tai chi part of the show along with other members of the Deyin Taijiquan Institute from all over the UK. You can buy tickets here.

Almost as glamorous and much more local, I will be starting a new beginners' tai chi and qigong class at the Chapter One Tea Rooms in Hindley on Wednesday afternoons at 2.30pm from 1 November. It is a reduced price class at £3.50/session and the nice people at Chapter One Tea Rooms have even offered to throw in a free pot of tea for the first class. :) Space is limited so booking is essential.

On 26 August in Aigburth, Liverpool is part 3 of the taiji kungfu fan routine with Angela Howarth.

And down in Telford on Saturday 30 September will be the next of the popular Deyin Taijiquan Institute bootcamps. These are free to Deyin members and only £15 to non-members. They can get filled up quickly so book soon to avoid disappointment.

This is followed on Sunday 1 October by xing yi quan and push hands with Master Tary Yip.

And on 28 October in Blundellsands, Liverpool is a morning workshop on applications and push hands with Angela Howarth.

Upcoming events

I'm looking forward to an applications/push hands workshop in Southport tomorrow morning, organised by Angela's Tai Chi School. These are important parts of tai chi that we don't always get a chance to practise enough. Plus I've been getting into the idea of "playing tai chi" and applications and push hands are always fun. :)

I was going to remind you about the Deyin Taijiquan Institute Tai Chi Boot Camp in Telford on Saturday 26 November, but I have just found out that it is already booked up, so if you haven't already reserved your place you will miss my workshop on Visualisation in Tai Chi Practice. There will be more free bootcamps for members - the next one celebrating Chinese New Year on 28 January.

In other news, the free course in Walkden is coming to an end on Monday. The good news is that it will be continuing as a normal paid class from 14 November and will be open to new members, so contact me if you would like to join.
