More Autumn events

Not a local event, but worth a trip to London! To celebrate 45 years of diplomatic relations between China and the UK, the UK Chinese Art Centre is putting together this stunning show on Tuesday 24 October at the Hackney Empire. Joanne and I will be performing in the tai chi part of the show along with other members of the Deyin Taijiquan Institute from all over the UK. You can buy tickets here.

Almost as glamorous and much more local, I will be starting a new beginners' tai chi and qigong class at the Chapter One Tea Rooms in Hindley on Wednesday afternoons at 2.30pm from 1 November. It is a reduced price class at £3.50/session and the nice people at Chapter One Tea Rooms have even offered to throw in a free pot of tea for the first class. :) Space is limited so booking is essential.

New classes

I have been very busy since getting back from my holiday (I will post a link to pictures soon - I promise!).

I will be starting not one but two new classes in Leigh very soon. They are both open to the public although for the Age UK one you need to be aged 55+ and register in advance.

The first class is open to everyone. It will be on Wednesday evenings 7pm to 8pm at the Tesco Leigh Extra Community Space, Tesco Leigh Extra, Leigh WN7 4BA. There will be a FREE taster class on Wednesday 1 July, so if you are wondering whether tai chi is for you, come along and find out. Classes proper will start on Wednesday 8 July and will be £3.50 each.

The second class is hosted by Wigan Borough Age UK Bright Days and will be on Tuesday mornings, 10.30am to 11.30am at Brookdale Court in Leigh. It is open to everyone aged 55+ and is FREE but you do need to register in advance. For details and to register contact Debra Shufflebottom on 01942 615883 or Debra.Shufflebottom@ageukwiganborough.org.uk.

Details of all classes are here.

Classes over Easter

Just a reminder that there will be no class in Leigh today or next Wednesday. We start again on Wednesday 15 April.

As it is a long break there will be a catch-up class in the Tesco Leigh Community Space on Easter Saturday, 4 April at 10am.

You are also welcome to go to the Monday evening class in Ashton-in-Makerfield instead, which will continue as usual, even on Easter Monday.

Have a lovely Easter weekend!

Lowton tai chi class restarts tomorrow

After a week on and a week off, we start the tai chi course in earnest tomorrow. We'll be having a look at Tishou, which is a left-handed version of Play Guitar. Play Guitar is an approximate translation of Shouhui Pipa and the pipa is the instrument being played in the picture.

You will also be making a start on your Individual Learning Plans, so do remember to bring pens and reading glasses if you need them.

New class in Lowton in September

The class in Captain's Lane will be back on Monday after my week off. I hope you've found some time to practise over the holiday!

I'll also be putting on a 10-week course at Lowton High School on Wednesday evenings at 8pm which starts on 17 September. It will be a course for beginners on the first half of the 16-step Yang style form and is £25 for the 10 weeks. There will be a follow-on course after Christmas on the second half of the form.

If you would like to do this course, enrolment is next Wednesday 3 September at Lowton High School, between 5pm and 7pm.

Autumn

Autumn is a time for going back to school. Summer is over and with it playing at tai chi in the park. We don't have the climate for regular outdoor sessions all year round.

The nights are getting longer and it gets darker earlier every day, which makes many of us feel sad as we miss the daylight.

Although the darker, wetter evenings can make us feel like staying at home with a cup of cocoa, a better way of dealing with seasonal blues is getting out and being active. So if you haven't been to tai chi classes for a while or are new to tai chi and thinking about starting, now is a good time to do it.

Today's class at Captain's lane is cancelled because of the weather. See you next week!

New tai chi class in Ashton-in-Makerfield

It is actually two new classes at the Captain's Lane Community Centre, here in Ashton-in-Makerfield. On Monday evenings from 14 January onwards, there will be 24-step Yang style tai chi from 7.15pm to 8.15pm and Taiji Kungfu Fan from 8.15pm to 9.15pm.

Classes cost £6 for the evening, whether you attend one class or both, so why not come along and give it a go? You will need a kungfu fan for the fan class, which you can buy here.

Start 2013 as you mean to go on, and get fit and have fun with some relaxing tai chi.

New class starting

As the current beginners's course at Lowton High School is coming to an end along with the school term, I will be starting a private class in the same place on the same night. Because it will no longer be subsidised, it does mean the price will go up. It will be £5 per session or £20 for five weeks. Because it is a private class, there will be no need to fill in forms or do coursework or assessments, but I will still make you practise on your own, because it helps you to learn!

The new private class will start on 1 August and will be from 8pm to 9.30pm. We will probably continue with the 24 step to start off with.

To join the class, send me an email or put your name on the form that I will bring to tonight's class.
